Reba(leader of the pack) - Reba is Nao's son. Hakuhiba created the Wolf's Long Tail; Nao created the wolf; Aingeru gave them wings; and Reba gave them the pack. Reba leads the pack in the heavens, the deities, and is represented by white wolves, orange eyes, the fang which he gave the wolf to protect itself, claws, and also by the growling of the stomache. He created Jingue from a droplet of water as it fell from the leaves of a maple tree into Renka pool.
Mhai(moon/night sky) - symbolized by koi, flowers, or fish of any kind. Mhai takes the form of a small and slight female wolf, with white eyes. It is said that Mhai controls the moon cycles by singing. She starts slow and quiet and sweet, but as the moon swells with the beauty of her voice it gets louder and sweeter still until she is howling. Afterwards she cries, and as her crying subsides the moon wanes away into a brittle little crescent. The new moon is when Mhai, knowing how the moon misses its old home, takes it closer to earth so that it may once again see the firefly tree for one night only.
She is the one which gives the wolf its loyal nature, and she is the one which turns a female puppy into a mature female wolf. She rarely touches the earth, so busy is she, but should she come to ground the signs are unmistakable. White flowers take root wherever she has been, and they blossom only in the moonlight.
Geki(sun) - Geki is represented by the relationship between wolves of different sexes and by bachelors. He's also represented by pride but also by sensitivity.
Hakuhiba(elements) - Hakuhiba is Kirra's older brother. He is the deity of the elements and power, and he created the Wolf's Long Tail for the wolf. Hakuhiba is represented by stone, water, plants, and regeneration.
Baku(destruction/life/evil) - Baku is Note's twin brother, and was formed from the ashes of a fire started by Jehovah. Baku represents the beginnings of life, but also evil and destruction. He is the one who selects the wolves to die, though Aingeru shepherds the souls to Jingue. Baku is said to produce stillborn pups by touching the mother on the 13th day of pregnancy; and to afterwards lurk in the pool under the Firefly Tree. He is Jingue's greatest enemy.
Once one enters paradise, Baku can be seen in his form of a small black wolf; scrawny and sneaky, scatter-speckled all over with embers. He has glowing red eyes, and behind his scruffy black head rise two wings: one black and demonic; and the other white and angelic. He has hooked yellow claws, similar to a mountain lion's--his scream is also similar to the same. The left forepaw, however, has no claws. Flames lick up to Baku's ankle--this paw is used to create stillborns.
Note/Epicharikaky(revenge/bloodlust/emnity/battle) - Note is Baku's twin brother, and he represents all things evil. Note was formed, like Baku, from the ashes of a fire started by Jehovah. Note is represented by ashes, strong winds, snares/tethers/traps, the colors grey+orange, burnt leaves, dried blood, and sickness. He is said to be in the presence of other deities sadistic and hostile; arrogant and dishonest among other things. Note enjoys creating discomfort in others, in acts of cruelty and violence--his greatest enjoyment is belittling mortal wolves or those in the lower ranks of the deities. He is said to hold grudges easily, and to act on them without hesitation with bloodlust and viciousness.
Wolves are alerted to the presence of Note by unexplained footprints of ash; which are always washed away by foul-smelling winds. It is a legend that if even the tiniest amount of Note's ashes passes by the first entrance of your home; you will fall ill. It is also said that Note's deep-rooted bitterness stems from the fact that he was unintended, and therefore unwanted.
Note does not consider Baku his twin, merely another who sprouted from the same spring as he. Note also has no real purpose, and is a serious danger to wolves as he spends all of his time causing trouble, picking fights, setting traps, and messing with others' heads. He likes to play games; not because he has to but because he wants to.
Sekai(hunting/speed/bravery) - Sekai is the patron deity of all warriors, scouts, and brave wolves. It is Sekai who turns a puppy into an adult and gives them the courage to protect themselves and their packs. Sekai is represented by blood or prey, and the hunt.
Gitakyou(dusk/twilight/dawn) - Gitakyou is the wolf that turns day into night and night into day. He is the night time protector of wolves, and the patron deity of the Ribeyako wolves in particular. He is the son of Mhai and Reba; and is represented by the color purple or sweet smells.
Chien(stars) - Chien is the deity of the stars. She is the one who coaxes them to come out and shine. She is the daughter of Mhai and Aingeru. She is said to show her presence in the dawn, where she puts all the stars to bed; and in the evening where she coaxes them back into the sky with seeds for them to eat. Chien is represented by those with a fine blue-white pelt, or bright yellow eyes, or an inquisitive personality. She is also represented by dust storms after dark, and the range of colors between dark blue and pale yellow.
Jehovah(cunning/trickster/discord) - Jehovah is the deity of cunning and trickery and the creator of discord and chaos. He creates nightmares from dreams by stepping on the sleeping wolf's tail; it is said. He also was the first to suggest to Kirra that Hakuhiba's elements would be fun to mess with. He locked Jingue in the Firefly Tree with a curse, and influences the Wolf's Long Tail with his fellow never-do-wells and tricksters. Jehovah is said to take the form of a fox-like wolf to roam around the Wolf's Long Tail; and is the only deity who is capable of doing this at will. He's said to be sinful, sly, cunning, and tricky by those wolves who have encountered him. He is represented by foxes, labyrinths, and mazes. Some wolves believe that it was Jehovah who created the rebels' HQ, and fools around there. Of course, there is nothing to prove it but the fact that the rebels' HQ is a tangled, barbed maze. One of the nighttime stories that mothers will tell their pups; is that one should never tattletale on their fellow wolf should they seek to upset Jehovah and provoke his cunning.
Aingeru(death/flying/dreams) - Aingeru is the god of death and dreams. He visits wolf's in their sleep and whispers to them--this is what creates dreams. Nightmares are created when Aingeru is followed by Jehovah, who will step on the sleeper's tail and corrupt their dreams. Aingeru is the one who first gave wolves wings.
Mari(love/passion/lust/addiction/temptation/persuasion/fertility) - her symbols are river stones, torches, and the color red. She takes the form of a tall and strong wolf with red fur and black eyes. She has long legs and great power in her lithe frame; she is said to be Reba's mother.
Mari's "place" is the Pong-Hu, which was founded by a passionately strong female wolf who did the goddess credit with her beauty and strength. Those who dwell there pray to Mari on occasion, for the most part, as she is their special patron and singularily favoring deity.
Nao(creation/wisdom/darkness/wolves) - Nao takes the form of an extremely old wolf with long white fur and very sharp eyes. He shaped the wolf and gave it life, putting it on the earth and in the Wolf's Long Tail to live. Reba is his son. Nao has a strong sense of justice, and has always been among the top ranks of the deities. He appeared first in the Wolf's Long Tail with the leader of the Ribeyako tribe, then the Shu and Kitchi tribes and finally the Rebels to test these leaders' skills and patience. The leader of the Rebels was rejected, and he was forced to take his pack into hiding south of the ruins; where the living was tough. Nao hoped that he had taught the tribes a lesson in true strength.
Nao is sent down to the Wolf's Long Tail by Reba to test the strength, honesty, dependability, and honor of the wolves. He helps to decide their destinies and his opinion greatly influences that of Reba for it is rich in wisdom like no other's can be.
Kirra(weather) - Kirra is Hakuhiba's brother, and being younger enjoys changing and altering his brother's works. This makes rain, sleet, snow, storms, hot days, strong winds, and is what creates the seasons. Kirra is represented by all puppies, waterfalls, clouds, precipitation, and the sky whether clouded or not. He is described to have a shy but persistently cunning disposition, and to enjoy frightening the occasional wolf. Kirra is described in some tales as being a thief, who serves Jehovah; while in others as an innocent convinced to commit wrongdoing by the same Jehovah. In still others Kirra is said to be Hakuhiba's loyal assistant, and the enemy of Jehovah.
Jingue(light/fireflies/howling/dying) - Jingue is represented by maple trees, fireflies, and red flowers. His season is autumn. It is said that Jingue has touched wolves of great beauty or talent. Jingue is also known as the pathway; because he lights the way to paradise and lives in the firefly tree. It's said that the pool of black water in the firefly tree is really a puddle of Jingue's blood. Jingue is the last and youngest deity.
